Privacy

Bharat Podium is a free, non-commercial site run by volunteers. You can read every page without an account and without telling us anything about yourself. We don't show ads, we don't sell or rent data, and we don't use analytics or tracking cookies.

What we collect

We only hold personal details that you choose to send us through one of the site's forms:

  • Volunteer sign-up (coaches, mentors, sports psychologists, nutritionists, physios and strength coaches): your name, email, role and experience, sports, languages, city and how many calls you can offer.
  • Help build Bharat Podium: your name, email, city, languages, the hours you have, what you'd like to help with, and a link to your work and a message if you add them.
  • Asking a volunteer for a call: your name, email, sport, age group and what you'd like help with.
  • Privacy requests made with the form below.

Why we use it

Only to do what you asked: to check volunteers, match athletes with them, set up calls, give mission volunteers a first task and answer your requests. By sending a form you consent to this, and you can withdraw that consent at any time. We never use your details for marketing or share them with sponsors, federations or anyone else.

If you volunteer to be listed in the directory, we'll show you what your public profile will say (name, role, sports, languages, city and availability) and only publish it once you agree. Your email is never shown.

Athletes under 18

If you're under 18, please ask a parent or guardian to fill in the call request with you. We will contact them and get their agreement before arranging anything, and a parent or guardian must be on every call.

Where it's kept and for how long

The site is hosted by Netlify, and form submissions are stored in our Netlify account, on servers that may be outside India. Netlify also screens submissions for spam. Only the few people who run Bharat Podium can see them.

We keep your details while you're volunteering or we're helping you, and delete them within 12 months of our last contact, or sooner if you ask.

What happens when you visit

  • Like any website, Netlify's servers see your IP address and browser details in order to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse. We don't use this to identify anyone.
  • Athlete photos load directly from Wikimedia Commons, so your browser also connects to Wikimedia's servers.
  • Your browser remembers two settings on your own device: light or dark theme, and which list of sports you last chose. They never leave your device, and clearing your browser's site data removes them.
  • Fonts are served from our own site, not from Google.

Athlete profiles

Athlete profiles are built from information already public on Wikidata and Wikipedia: names, sports, dates and places of birth, results and public social accounts, with freely licensed photos from Wikimedia Commons (see Sources & credits). If you're an athlete, or a parent of one, and something is wrong or you'd like a detail or photo removed, tell us with the form below and we'll fix it at the next update. It helps to correct the source on Wikidata or Wikipedia too, or the error may come back.

Your rights

Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can ask us to show you the details we hold about you, correct or update them, delete them, or stop using them. You can also name someone to act for you if you're unable to. Use the form below and we'll reply within 30 days. If you're not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

Keeping it safe

The whole site is served over HTTPS, forms only send to our own site, and access to submissions is limited to the people who run Bharat Podium. If we ever learn of a breach that affects your details, we'll tell you and the Data Protection Board.

Changes

If we start collecting something new or using your details differently, we'll update this page and the date at the top first, and email volunteers about any change that affects them.
